Regarding the current role of medianet berlinbrandenburg eV in the House of Games Berlin

The House of Games Berlin emerged from several years of collaboration between industry stakeholders, politicians, and administrators. In addition to the medianet berlinbrandenburg eV Among those present were the game – Association of the German Games Industry as well as companies such Ubisoft involved. In this process, medianet assumed a coordinating and structuring role and accompanied discussions with potential location and implementation partners.

As part of a grant from the Berlin Senate Chancellery, limited to the end of 2025, medianet was commissioned to carry out preparatory tasks for the House of Games Berlin project. These included, among other things, a feasibility study, the identification and evaluation of suitable real estate options, and national and international marketing and communication measures to raise awareness of the project. Organizing an industry event in June 2025 to announce the final location also fell within this scope of work.

In this context, the WISTA GmbH WISTA, an experienced developer and operator of technology-oriented sites in Berlin, has been brought on board to manage the property and project development. With this transition to concrete real estate development and leasing, operational responsibility now lies with WISTA, which will coordinate the tenant move-in and the opening of the House of Games Berlin. medianet will continue to support the project through its extensive networking efforts – particularly by assisting with networking, visibility, and, if needed, with business relocation issues.

Voices on the project

“With the House of Games in Berlin, we are building something truly special: a hub for companies, developers, and startups in the games industry. The games sector is already a significant economic driver for Berlin, generating approximately €250 million in annual revenue and employing more than 3.000 people. I am certain that the House of Games Berlin will become a home for established companies, developers, and founders from Germany and around the world. This central location brings together everything: history, modern infrastructure, and creativity. It's the perfect mix for innovation, exchange, and development.”

– Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin

"With the House of Games, Berlin is becoming the premier location for the games industry in Germany. Alongside FinTech, GreenTech, and HealthTech, the games industry has long been a key driver of innovation, digitalization, and economic growth in Berlin. Therefore, it is a stated goal of our economic policy to continuously expand this dynamic sector in our city. Last year alone, we provided over €6 million in state funding for the games industry and another €4 million for the visual effects sector. We intend to maintain this level of funding in the upcoming two-year budget. We are also advocating for improved games funding at the federal level."

Our message to game companies, studios, startups, and developers is clear: We see you, we want you in Berlin! With the House of Games, you now have a real home in Berlin that supports networking, development, and visibility. This project is another step on our path to becoming the number one innovation hub in Europe.

– Franziska Giffey, Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises

“With a record funding total of €4,6 million at the state level, Berlin-Brandenburg supported game development in the capital region in 2023. Games, e-sports, immersive technologies, creative technologies – these are the sectors of the creative industries that represent one of the largest economic drivers for this region. The House of Games Berlin will create a place where business, science, education, culture, and the general public converge, showcasing the entire ecosystem surrounding the cultural asset of games.”

Whether large or small companies, development studios, co-working spaces, startups, cultural or educational institutions: The House of Games Berlin will be a magnet for national and international gaming enthusiasts – in both the B2B and B2C sectors.”

– Jeannine Koch, Chairwoman of the Board / Managing Director – medianet berlinbrandenburg eV

“The House of Games Berlin will be a unique venue with international appeal, which will help to make Germany even more visible and well-known worldwide as an up-and-coming games location. With this project, we can jointly showcase the industry's great diversity, its culture, economic strength, and innovative capacity.”

– Felix Falk, Managing Director – game – Association of the German Games Industry

“The ideal location for the House of Games Berlin has been found. Here, we have the perfect starting point for our project: to create both an inspiring environment for the gaming companies moving in and a strong local community. The central location also allows us, as operators, to develop an innovation ecosystem in East Berlin and, in collaboration with other Berlin innovation hubs, throughout the city. As operators of innovation hubs such as the Adlershof Technology Park, we will contribute our expertise to designing spaces that give companies and talent access to what they need: suitable infrastructure, networking opportunities, and collaboration possibilities with science and technology companies.”

– Roland Sillmann, Managing Director – WISTA Management GmbH

“The House of Games Berlin is a groundbreaking project for the German games industry. As a large international company, a diverse environment is crucial for Ubisoft to develop a location sustainably. We need an ecosystem of large, medium-sized, and small companies—a genuine digital game development culture. Regular informal exchange, shared infrastructure, and the collaboration between industry, education, academia, associations, youth protection agencies, and service providers will make the House of Games a vibrant hub.”

For Berlin and for Germany, this is a game changer and an important building block for catching up with the major international centers of game development in the future.”

– Benedikt Grindel, Zone Managing Director – Ubisoft Production Studios
