Andreasen and Magidson will share films they have produced together in Greenland and discuss, first hand, issues of climate change and the challenges of modernization which are central to current global necessity. Ann Andreasen | Head of the Uunnannaq Children’s Home  and Director

Since October 1985, Ann Andreasen is head of the Uummannaq Children’s Home in Greenland, one of the biggest state foster-homes in the country, dedicated in the healing of young people victims of family neglect and abuse. In order to improve the therapeutical and educational work at the Children’s home, her vision has always been to involve the whole community, the local Inuit culture and diverse international resources. At the beginning of the International Polar Year (2007), she founded the Uummannaq Polar Institute (UPI) to contribute in the preservation of the local Inuit culture and promote educational programmes for children and teenagers of the UUMMANNAQ POLAR INSTITUTE (UPI).

 

Mike Magidson | Director

Mike Magidson has written and directed over thirty films. His first narrative feature, Inuk, competed in the 85th Academy Awards for best foreign language film and was the winner of more than twenty-five international awards. His most recent films, “Call of the Ice”, “Polar Kid”, and “Kamchatka, a Winter with the Even” are the latest installments in a life spent documenting indigenous people, their uncertain future and the unparalleled beauty of the Arctic North.
