Berlin Buzzwords is a conference focused on open source software projects in the field of big data analysis, scalability, storage and searchability. It provides a platform for developers, engineers, IT architects, analysts and data scientists who are interested in information retrieval, the searchability of large amounts of data, NoSQL and big data processing. Previous Berlin Buzzwords’ presentations focused on Apache Spark, Flink, Kylin, Cassandra, Lucene, HBase, Kafka, Solr, Hadoop, Samza, Mahout, Elasticsearch, MongoDB and many more.

The conference was founded by Isabel Drost-Fromm (Member of the Apache Software Foundation, PMC member Apache community development and co-founder of Apache Mahout), Jan Lehnardt (PMC member Apache CouchDB) and Simon Willnauer (PMC member Apache Lucene).

In 2017, more than 600 attendees visited Kulturbrauerei to join the eighth edition of Berlin Buzzwords. Over 60 international speakers offered more than 40 hours of program in 50+ sessions on 4 stages.
